Recently, the students Ines and Karla proposed a “genius business idea” to me. Namely, they said that as a well-known Gastro Snob, I could review student canteens. What little hair was left on my head I lost the moment I heard the word canteen. I said to them: “Are you crazy? I just need word to spread around town that the Dear Leader Joe eats in student canteens and rumors will start – He’s failed, he’s just pretending to be successful, he’s average Joe…” Once a man listened to a woman in Paradise and we all know how it ended.<\/span><\/p>\n

How a new restaurant opened in the city center, to be exact <\/span>Magazinska klet <\/strong><\/a>at Tkalciceva street 54, I suggested we go there for a proper lunch, and along the way I also invited Polina, aka the biggest star of the TV show ”The Bachelor” to join us. Where there are openings, there is also Dear Leader Joe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gone are the days when grill places were old shacks on the edge of town with cheap plastic chairs. The space inside is beautifully decorated, but since it was a nice day, we decided to sit on the terrace. Let all passers-by in Tkalciceva see how the Dear Leader Joe lives \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

Good beers go great with a good charcoal grill, but when I heard they had De Gotho Grasevina from the Kutjevo winery, I had to order a bottle of wine that recently won the “Best of Show Croatia White” award for the best rated white wine in Croatia at the “Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2025” international competition in Neustadt, Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our Polina was late because she went to the Magazinska klet in another location. I forgot that I was supposed to send her the instructions in Cyrillic. I welcomed her with a glass of wine and said in fluent Russian: “<\/span>\u0423 \u043c\u0438\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0430 \u0421\u043e\u0432\u0435\u0440\u0448\u0435\u043d\u0441\u0442\u0432\u0430 \u043d\u0435\u0442 \u0432\u043e\u043b\u043e\u0441” <\/span>or in translation: “Mr. Perfect has no hair!”<\/span><\/p>\n

She laughed like Putin and let me know that she was looking for a man with hair or at least a good wig. <\/span><\/p>\n

I told her: “If hair was good, even Vin Diesel would have it :)”<\/span><\/p>\n

We started with a mixed cold plate. The hot bread melted in the mouth like Croatia’s advantage against France football team in Paris, but this bread didn’t leave a bitter taste like a defeat in the League of Nations. It’s not the bread that Ines and Karla eat in the student cafeteria and for which you need a gun certificate because it’s so hard. Hot as an apartment on Dalmatian coast without air conditioning, and soft as silk, it melted in the mouth like Albanian ice cream on a sunny day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under normal circumstances, this much food would be enough for us because the portions are really big, but since these are not normal circumstances and since we came for a tasting, I told Ines to order some dessert. She took the menu and said: “They also have platter Leskovacki voz. We could have that for dessert.” I thought to myself: “Poor student. The question is when did she last eat and when will she eat again. The hungry need to be fed. The world is left to the young. Summer is close and I will lose my six pack again \ud83d\ude41<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Of course, we didn’t manage to eat everything after everything we had already eaten, so Ines and Karla asked the friendly waiter to wrap up the rest of their food for home.\u00a0 It’s hard to be a student \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I said: “This is a meat dessert, but I need something sweet. Lunch without cake is like a taxi driver without a chessboard.” With every bite I felt like heart attack is knocking on my door \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

Even the self-deprecating Karla had nothing against cake. It was as if her gaze was saying: “Let them eat cake.”<\/span><\/p>\n

It is interesting that in the basement they have another large and well-decorated room that you can rent for birthdays, business parties, etc. I will organize at this very location on 15.4. the biggest business networking party in Croatia aka <\/span>IBMC – International Business Meetup Club party<\/strong><\/a>. Guests will be entertained by Boris Rogoznica, and if he drinks enough, maybe Dear Leader Joe will play too.<\/span><\/p>\n
